International Interview Project

On April 21 2008, Filip waiting to us to begin the interview about Serbia. I think Philip has been in San Francisco a long time, and I feel that Philip misses his country. I forgot to ask him how he been in United States and what is the difference in US to Serbia.  My interview with Filip was about their religion in Serbia.

I started asking Filip about there religion and my first question to him is “What’s the difference of Christianity orthodox and roman catholic?” He answered “the difference is Christmas is a two weeks after and then new years is two weeks after and most everything else, most of the holidays religious holidays, saint days are the same spread is originates.” This is big difference to United States. It’s not like that here at all. Here some people are Roman Catholic, Christian, and other religion. All religion here are mixed I can’t really say what the main religion here is.

My second question to Filip was “How often do they go to church?” He replied “Well they don’t go every Sunday they are big saint day’s that they celebrate some family have their own days to celebrate.” In US they go to church every Sunday or so. This reminds me of my country because we usually go to church every Sunday sometimes on Wednesday. Also if it’s Christmas we go to church first before we celebrate Christmas so Serbia kind a like my country by going to church.      My third question to him is “On your religion does it affect your marriage.” He answers “Just religious people can get married on the church and some have to go to an office of registration to be legal.” Same thing here in US. This is similar to my country and United States you have to have a legal document for truth in your marriage and get married in a church. I think not only religious people who can get married well other people too.
Final question for Philip is “are there other conflicts outside in your religion?” He replied “yeah most of the population is a Christian orthodox and 19th century when there conflict on Bosnia when three Catholics spread the word of their beliefs so that’s how it get a conflict because of the Catholics churches and Muslim churches and orthodox churches.” I feel that a lot of conflicts on their religion. It’s not like that here at all because people have their own way and I haven’t heard about conflicts out here. In my country, there haven’t some conflict’s between other religion we just kind a follow are own beliefs in God.               This interview was my first I’ve ever done. It’s been a pleasure to interview a person whose part from other country. I learned that your questions have to be specific what you are asking and also I learned the important details that you heard from the interview.
